Insulation
TIPS for passive packaging of parmaceuticals & perishables in air cargo or air freight
|
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
The
Temax insulation is being used as a passive packaging
to insulate conditioned goods such as pharmaceuticals
and perishables which are loaded on euro pallets,
block pallets, airplane pallets, air cargo containers,
boxes and crates, etc... The purpose of the insulation
is to protect the conditioned goods against external
temperatures or extreme temperature peaks. To make
sure the best temperature results are being
established, we offer below some tips on how to
insulate the goods or how to handle the insulation
material.

|
|
.
|
| 1.
Avoid cold bridges
|
|
Ask yourself,
what is the purpose of a high quality insulation in your
house if you leave the door or window open? Indeed, nothing.
This is the same with the insulation of goods. If there are
cold bridges, which means that the insulation has openings
through which air can flow, the temperature results will be
lost. Therefore it is very important to pay some attention
on the way the insulation is being put on. Make sure that
edges and insulation ends are always crossed-over so all
cold bridges are avoided. Tape the edges and cross-overs if
needed. |

|
| 2.
Pre-cooling the insulation
|
|
The Temax
insulation consist out of multiple insulation techniques of
which reflection is the major technique (see Passive
packaging).
This also means that the insulation has minimal accumulation
effects when placed in other temperatures then the
temperatures of the goods. Yet it is always better for the
temperature results that the insulation has the same
temperature as the goods which need to be protected.
Therfore we would like to advice that you store the
insulation material in the storrage room of the goods which
need to be protected. So if you want to ship goods which are
at 2°C make sure that the insulation material also has that
temperature. If you would use an insulation material of
+20°C to protect the 2°C goods, the insulation will give
of its own temperature to the goods which will effect the
temperature rsults. |

|
| 3.
Location of the packing
|
|
Is you are
packing conditioned goods with insulation material, it is
VERY important that the packing is done in the same room as
the conditioned goods. If you want to ship goods which have
a temperature of 2°C it is important that the insulation is
being put on the goods in the 2°C enviroment. If you would
pack the goods in a +20°C enviroment, warm air will be
packed together with the goods and will influence the
temperature results. |

|
| 4.
Seal and stretch foils
|
|
Pallets are
usualy sealed with seal foils or stretch foils to prevent
the goods from falling of the pallet. If this pallet needs
to be insulated, it is adviseble to insulate after the
sealing. If the pallet is being insulated first and
afterwards seald with stretchfoil, the chance is real that
the insulation is pressed so hard that it is being reduced
in thickness which will influence the temperature results.
|
|
.
|
| 5.
Storrage
|
|
If the
insulation is being storred, it is advisable not to place
heavy goods on the insulation. Heavy goods may press the
insulation so hard that it will reduce the thickness which
will influence the insulation quality. |

| 6.
Testing and adapting
|
|
The Temax
insulation is a passive packaging which means that no active
cooling is being added. This also means that a lot of
varables determin the temperature result. The mass and
volume of the goods, internal and external temperatures,
time of transport, etc.. have an influence on the
temperature result. Therfore it is impossible to predict
youre specific temperature result and is it adviseble to
test the insulation. The insulation is tailor made so we can
ajust the insulation quality according to your needs and
wishes untill the wanted temperature results are
established. |
