Air
freight and air cargo of conditioned pharmaceuticals (+2°c
to +8°c) and (+15°c to +25°c)

You
would not realy think about it, but there are a lot of
pharmaceutical products which need to be transported
or stored in a conditioned enviroment. These
conditioned pharmaceuticals will lose there quality if
the correct temperature is not being kept. The two
biggest groups of conditioned pharmaceuticals are the
(+2°C to +8°C) group and the ambiant group which is
now classified as the (+15°C to +25°C) group. There
are also some pharmaceutical products which are being
kept in a (+2°C to +25°C) enviroment. To maintain
these temperatures losts of affords need to be taken,
certainly when the pharmaceutical products are being
shipped with air freight or air cargo where extreme
temperatures can apeare. In the air freight industry
active or passive
packaging
are being used to keep
the goods on the needed temperatues.

Temperature
conditions through the logistic chain -
cold chain |
|
To maintain
the temperatures during an air freight shipment a lot of
actors in the chain need to be equiped to keep the needed
temperatures. The pharma producer, transport company,
forwarder, airliner, transfers on the airports, etc...
need to be able to maintain the needed temperature so an
ideal cold chain can be established. This is not always
easy. To find a solution it would be adviseble that the
producer of the pharmaceutical products himself or in
co-operation with the forwarder insulate the goods to
protect them against external temperatures or extreme
temperature differences. Below you can find some tips and
ideas on how the goods could be insulated to protect them
against the external temperatures. They function as a
passive packaging. |

Producer insulates the bottom of the pallet + forwarder
insulates the rest
|
|

|
|
The
temperature result of a passive packaging is
also being determined by the insulation of the
bottom of the pallet. Therefore it is very
important to insulate the bottom, the pallet.
Seeing the producer of pharmaceuticals is
loading the pallet, it could be a solution to
insulate the pallet during the production
proces at the producer. Is the pallet
insulated and loaded with goods, the pallet
can be shipped to the forwarder with
conditioned trucks and trailers. The forwarder
will insulate the pallet further (sides and
roof) so the pallet is completely insulated
and ready to be shipped with the air freight
company or airliner to its destination
somewere in the world. For this solution we
produce several models of thermal blankets
tailor made for insulating the pallet in the
production proces. |

Forwarder insulates the complete pallet
with a floating pallet
|
|

|
|
When
pharmaceutical goods are being shipped, it is
mostly not possible to break down the pallet
somewere in the chain and remove the boxes.
The pallets, once completed by the
pharmaceutical producer, can therefore not be
touched by the forwarder. This makes it very
difficult for the forwarder to insulate the
bottom of the pallet seeing the goods may not
be taken off. A solution for this situation is
to use a floating pallet on which the
insulation of thermal blanket is placed and on
which the pallet with pharmaceutical goods is
being placed. This solution offers the
forwarder the possibility to maintain the
goods and wishes of the pharmaceutical
producer and offer an optimal insulation or
passive packaging. For this solution we
produce several models of thermal blankets
tailor made for insulating the pallet. |
