| What
are ambient pharmaceuticals ?
|
|
Ambient
pharmaceuticals are pharmaceuticals which have a wide range
in regards to the temperature limits or temperature barriers
in which they are transported or stored meaning that they
can be kept in room temperatures or ambient temperatures.
The most known ambient pharmaceuticals or medicines have a
temperature limit of minimal 0°C to maximal +25°C or
minimal +15°C to maximal +25°C. There are even
pharmaceuticals which have a wider range then these limits.
The temperature limits of these ambient pharmaceuticals were
also not necessary meaning that if the temperature was
increased above the maximal temperature limits or dropped
below the minimal limits the quality of the medicine or
pharmaceutical products was not harmed. This also led to the
fact that the temperature of the ambient pharmaceuticals was
never controlled in the supply chain. |

| New
guidelines in temperature preservation of ambient
pharmaceuticals
|
|
To
this not temperature controlled supply chain of the ambient
pharmaceuticals is coming an end. More and more countries,
more than 15 countries in 2011 are obligating a temperature
controlled delivery and are monitoring the temperature at
its arrival. This new guideline is spreading meaning that
more countries will be following until the guideline will
become a worldwide obligation. The guideline states that the
temperature of the ambient pharmaceuticals needs to be
monitored at least six times per hour during
its transport and distribution. |

| Ambient
pharmaceuticals, a new temperature controlled supply chain
or cold chain
|
|
Due
to these new obligations the pharmaceutical industry
included all the actors in the supply chain, as transport
companies, distribution centers, resellers, forwarders,
airline companies and sea freight companies, etc… are
challenged with a new development of temperature controlling
these pharmaceuticals. If a pharmaceutical product or
medicine has a temperature limit of +15°C to +25°C the
necessary measurements have to be taken to maintain this
temperature through the total supply chain or cold chain
meaning that this supply chain in changing into a
temperature controlled supply chain. This is a big
challenge, yet can be solved. |

| Passive
cooling as thermal blankets and thermal covers for ambient
pharmaceuticals
|
|
An effective way for creating a temperature controlled supply chain on
ambient pharmaceuticals is using passive
cooling techniques as thermal blankets or thermal
covers. In passive cooling an insulation material is used to
protect the temperature of the temperature sensitive
products, as the ambient pharmaceuticals become, against
external or outer temperatures. The bid advantage of passive
cooling is that the product is protected from the start at
the producer to the finish at the receiver. Another
advantage of passive cooling as thermal blankets or thermal
covers is that the actors in the supply chain do not need to
invest in expensive active cooling systems so the transport
costs can be kept within reasonable limits. Next, passive
cooling offers flexibility in the logistics of the supply
chain. This efficiency of passive cooling explains why more
and more pharmaceutical companies as actors in the supply
chain are implementing passive cooling systems as thermal
covers and thermal blankets to create an optimal temperature
preservation of the ambient pharmaceuticals. |

TEMAX
insulated thermal blankets for ambient pharmaceuticals in the
cold chain

|
| What
is Temax insulation? |
|
The Temax
insulation is a special developed
insulation material which functions as a passive
cooling technique for transporting and distributing
temperature sensitive or temperature controlled goods
as perishables pharmaceuticals chemicals etc... The
Temax insulation functions as a thermal blanket for
temperature protection or temperature preservation.
The Temax insulation can be delivered on rolls which
the customer can cut to size or can be produced as
ready-to-use insulated packaging for pallets, boxes,
crates, airplane pallets, etc... |
|
Temax
is a worldwide registered Trademark (TM) with
multiple patents on the insulation material
and ready-to-use insulation applications. |
|
|
|
|
Single use or multiple use
applications |
|
The
Temax insulation can be produced for single use or multiple use
applications. The Temax insulation is already successfully in use
for the transport and distribution of temperature controlled food
products, pharmaceuticals and chemicals in which chilled or
cooled, frozen or deep frozen, and ambient temperature products
are protected from unwanted external outer temperatures. The Temax
insulation is flexible, has a high insulation quality which can be
produced tailor made, is water resistant and is recyclable, even
partial bioligic degradable. |

Protocols on how to use the
Temax insulation |
|
Krautz-Temax
as the developer and producer of the Temax insulation material
offers also studies on the insulation technology and quality as
the logistic processes to close the cold chain or temperature
controlled supply chain. We have several protocols on how pallets
or boxes should be wrapped and packed in order to prevent cold
bridges and result in a optimal temperature preservation and
temperature protection. See also cold
chain implementation plan |

References and users |
|
The
Temax insulation material is already in use at some of the biggest
pharmaceutical companies, food and chemical companies, freight
forwarders and transport companies, airliners and shippers etc...
This in road transport, air cargo and sea freight as single use or
multiple use applications. |
