Insulating
pallets according to protocol "Temax4000+MATS"

When
temperature sensitive products as pharmaceuticals or
perishables are transported on pallets, the choice could be
made to use a passive
cooling system which means than an insulation
material is used to protect the temperature of the products or
goods against unwanted external or outer temperatures. Also in
a cold chain where active
cooling is used, the choice could be made to use
additional passive cooling so the CCP’s “Critical control
points”, where the temperature can fluctuate, do not have an
impact on the temperature of the products or goods. When
passive cooling is used, the question rises how the pallet
should be wrapped or insulated in order to achieve the best
temperature preservation.

|
Below
the Temax
insulation is shown as an insulated blanket
combined with insulated mats which is delivered tailor made or
can be cut from standard sizes of the insulation material on
rolls. According to this protocol three insulated blankets are
needed being a bottom insulation blanket, a top insulation and
a side insulation which is wrapped around the pallet. To make
the wrapping easier, the Temax insulation can be foreseen with
double sided tape over the total length of the blankets so the
blankets stick to the goods so the wrapping can be done by
just one person.

How
to wrap and insulate the pallet
|
|
The
first step in insulating the pallet with the insulated
blanket is cut the bottom blanket to size. The sizes
can be found in the protocol. This bottom insulated
blanket is
placed on the bottom on which the goods are loaded.
The next step is to place the roof insulation on top
of the goods.

|
As soon as the bottom and top or roof blankets
are placed, the overlap of the top insulation is
folded downwards. Next, the side insulation is wrapped
around the pallet and the overlap of the bottom
insulation is folded upwards over the side insulation.
Last, the potential cold bridges are sealed with tape.
The pallet is now ready for shipment.

TEMAX4000+
(self adhesive insulation with double sided tape)
|
|
To
increase the wrapping speed of the insulation material
around the pallet, the Temax insulation can be
pre-produced with double sided tape. This tape is placed
over the total length of the insulation material and
this on three sides (see right). The advantage of these
tapes is that the insulations become self-adhesive so
the insulation sticks automatically to the goods on the
pallet which make the wrapping easier and fast. This
model is called Temax4000+ and can be tailor made to all
the Temax insulation materials |

Closing
the cold bridges
|
|
In
order to achieve a good temperature preservation it is
very important that no convection flow or air flow can
take place from the outside to the inside of the pallet
/ goods. Therefore it is important that all potential
cold bridges are closed meaning that all the overlaps of
the insulation material need to be taped / sealed with
tape. It is advisable to use the special TEMAX tape
(width 10cm) and tape dispenser to do this. Due to the
width of 10cm the sealing can be done very fast and
efficient. If you need to cut the insulation we would
advise you to use the special TEMAX industrial scissor
which has a big opening and is very strong which makes
it easy to cut the standard 3,5cm thickness of the
insulation material. In short, do you want to work fast
and efficient, please use the Temax additional work
tools. |
