To ship goods, packaging systems such as cardboard boxes, bags or crates can be used. When temperature sensitive goods are shipped with this kind of packaging applications,  the need for an insulation material rises. This to protect the temperature of the goods against unwanted external temperatures. In this case the insulation functions as a passive cooling or passive packaging which means that no mechanical or electrical cooling systems are implemented. When the usage of insulation for the packaging systems is studied it should be taken into consideration if the insulation should be for single one-way-use only or for a re-usable multiple use application. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages. To maintain the temperature in the packaging for a longer time or during extreme temperatures ice packs, gel packs or even dry-ice can be used. Yet the usage of ice packs or dry-ice can give disadvantages regarding the forming of condensation and under-cooling or over-heating of the temperature sensitive goods in which the cooling systems themselves, as the dry-ice or ice-packs, need to be insulated separately to prevent this under-cooling. In short, using passive cooling or passive packaging for the distribution of temperature sensitive goods as food products, pharmaceutical products or chemical products should be studied closely so a tailor made solution can be created.

Next to the temperature preservation in packaging, the storage and logistics is also a very important item. Packaging is used in big quantities which results in a lot of space and volume in storrage. Certainly when insulated boxes or packaging is used. Therefore Krautz Temax developes special foldable insulated packaging so they take a minimum of space in the storrage room. This at the sender of the temperature sensitive products as at the reciever of the products.

When insulated packaging is used for the transport or distribution of temperature sensitive products and goods, the ecological aspect of the material which is used as insulation is very important. Insulation materials as packaging is used as a one-way-use distribution channel which means that the packaging is used only ones so the ecological footprint needs to be taken into consideration. The reciever of the packaging with temperature sensitive product needs to be able to use the standard waste channels. Therefore Krautz Temax uses recyclable materials which are also partly biologic degradable.
